Born in 1976, Arunangshu has a BVA from the Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship. Since his graduation he has been a participant in numerous exhibitions and camps, and has sponsors and collectors all over the country. In 2011, Arunangshu was awarded the prestigious all-India Birla Academy of Fine Arts Award for excellence in drawing.
Arunangshu's main inspiration is the world of nature, especially animals and insects, where he finds simplicity in the pleasure of living, interdependency, and the struggle to survive. Human civilization on the other hand is both malicious and bloody, bringing pain and conflict to the natural world. He often portrays human beings as cruel and ferocious animals, the wild and carnivorous beasts of the gloomy dark jungles.
His portrayals are often disturbing, as his birds and beasts appear to be creatures of ancient earth who appear on his canvas of their own accord. They are invisible to the human eye but are nurtured by a compassionate earth. But the simplicity of subject-matter and technique in Arunangshu's works are deceptive – his is a highly sophisticated style, gaining fast recognition in the world of art as a fresh new voice.
