Chronicles of Fallen leaves
A Kolkata-based artist and writer, Ruplekha Ghosh draws her inspiration from fallen and jettisoned elements of the natural world. Dried leaves, twigs, and bits of bark are her medium. “What comes from the soil eventually returns to it” says this quiet and contemplative artist, who truly loves trees and leaves. With over a decade of experimentation in incorporating natural materials into her art, Ruplekha has now defined her ouvre, and her Kolkata-themed dried organic matter artwork has found international appreciation.
This graduate in Zoology is an avid gardener and travel writer. She has sailed the world with her Chief Engineer husband, and feels that it is her life that has shaped her artistic vision.
"Chronicles of Fallen Leaves" is a unique exhibition, even for us at Tejas gallery, who revel in the unusual. Dried leaves with their fleeting beauty echo the ephemeral moments of daily life, while resilient twigs and rugged bark reflect the enduring character and heritage of Kolkata. Together, they form a dialogue between the soft whispers of nature and the vibrant hum of the city, inviting viewers to rediscover familiar scenes through an unexpected lens. A fragile and transient medium becomes the canvas for enduring memories of Kolkata, a city of heritage, culture and great architectural beauty
