The playful figures gambolling across Prasanta Acharjee’s canvasses and paperworks are deceptively simple. There is a deep meaning and balance in these stylish visual arrangements which ultimately convey a sense of totality to the viewer, even the casual one.
The artist's mastery with his drawing tools makes each little piece a signature one. Each work is individual in its use of gesture and colour, yet together form a statement about the universe, a dance of life itself. These paintings are less about conflicts and more about resolutions within the paradigms of abstraction, figuration and colour. In the artist's own words - "I alternate between abstract and figurative work...paint without a prior sketch...the actual figures emerging by chance. It is my emotions that give shape to the figures, their motion and colour and posture. "
